How many? How about a thousand? A thousand is a lot? Sure it is. A thousand is a flock! Probably a flock large enough to freak many people out. Not us, though. We think that sometimes a good idea takes a whole flock.
Inspired by what Aesop Rock’s music means to each of us, in general… and “Pigeonometry” in particular… We want to give him something back: His book. His flock. A flock as unique as he is, as his art is, as every single pigeon is, as each one of us are.
To make the Aesop flock unique, we need your very uniqueness to become a part of it. In honor of Ian’s 50th birthday in 2026, fans and friends are joining forces to create the book of 1000 pigeons. With "fans and friends" we mean to include you. Yes: you. Let’s see if we can make it an actual 1000 on the dot. (851 to go!)
Whether you gained your merit with Music for Earthworms, already held the cup with Appleseed, skipped town to Float, saved yourself with Labor Days, super fluked into Bazooka Tooth, passed were None Shall, cycled to Gehenna with Skelethon, spent lotta years with The Impossible Kid, opened the gates with a Spirit World Field Guide, jazz handled Garbology, or sat down by the river with Integrated Tech Solutions – or all of the above – feel warmly welcome and swing back to wing clap and submit the very pigeon you envision when you listen to Aesop, well just for the rhyme of it: spitting.
It doesn’t matter if you make art all the time or maybe you think you actually can’t draw a line. The flock will accept whatever your markings and signs, sparkles and shines, no matter if light rose, range-red or darker eyes… Spare tufts or feathered feet, checkered or barless wings, plumage spread blue, spread brown, spread ash-red, piebald: all birds are fairies and heroines. At least to us. You’re literally and explicitly not pigeonholed except by (a) the theme of pigeons and (b), for the love of Aes, no Gen-AI. Just just just just don’t.
Your nestlings should be flying the coop and entering the flock through our submission form by December 31, 2025. We will present the finished product to Ian on June 5, 2026.
We are planning to print a limited edition hardcover book which will be made available for purchase; so that contributing artists and interested fans may own this special collection of art. Preorders will open at the end of 2025. All of the proceeds of this book will be donated to a charity that aligns with Ian’s values -in his name- as the second part of this gift.
Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions.
